‘MNIK’ among top 5 box officehits in the Middle East

Shah Rukh Khan starrer “My Name Is
Khan” (MNIK) has become the highest
Bollywood earner in the Middle East with
$3.3. million in collections.
“In other Islamic markets too, it continues
to grow and has crossed over to non-
diaspora audiences. In Indonesia, for
example, the film has grown from six to 14
screens and has seen a jump of 300
percent in week three,” Vijay Singh, CEO of
Fox Star Studios India, said in a statement.
The film is to open in Jordan, Lebanon and
Syria March 10.
So far, “MNIK” worldwide earning is about
Rs.174.6 crore ($37.5 million) with India
contributing Rs.102.2 crore and international
markets recording around Rs.72.4 crore.
Directed by Karan Johar, “My Name Is Khan”
explores lives in the post-9/11 period in the
US. The movie has Shah Rukh playing a man
with Asperger’s Syndrome and Kajol plays
his love interest.
In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), “MNIK”
is now tracking to become the number four
movie of all time, competing with
Hollywood blockbusters like “The Dark
Knight”, “Transformers 2: Revenge of the
Fallen”, “Spider Man 3″ and “Twilight: New
Moon”.

Farah will only make HappyNew Year with SRK

Why did Farah choose Akshay over SRK for
her film Tees Maar Khan? That hasn’t been
reported on. Now, Farah has come out and
spoken on the matter. “Am I the only
person who has some reserved rights on
SRK, or has SRK some rights on me?” says
Farah, “No, it just happened.”
The reason there was speculation about a
falling-out between the two of them was
that the movie was originally thought to be
made for SRK. But after reports that SRK did
not want to get involved in the project, it
was announced that Akshay would take his
place instead.
Farah has begun work on Tees Maar Khan,
but her other project with SRK, Happy New
Year, is pending. Of that, she says: “It
should have happened this year. But
whenever I plan to start work on it, I end
up making some other film instead.”
But the reason could also be that SRK has
kept her waiting for years despite having
two hits with her, Main Hoon Na and Om
Shanti Om. Farah says that talk of a falling-
out is not true. “Without him, the two
movies would not have been such big hits,
and I don’t see why we shouldn’t make
another film,” she says.
Happy New Year has been spoken about for
four years, and in that period, SRK has
signed on two films Ra.1 and Don 2. “Ra.1 is
his home production, and it’s a project
really close to his heart,” says Farah,
“while Don 2 is a longstanding project.
Perhaps, I wasn’t ready with the script, and
that’s why he moved on to Ra.1″
But now that she is working on Tees Maar
Khan, she has time to go before starting
work on Happy New Year. Farah says that if
she makes the film, it will be with Shah
Rukh. “If, for some other reason, he doesn’t
want to do it. I will not make it.”.

Akon in SRK-starrer ‘Ra.One’?

American singer-songwriter Akon is reportedly appearing in Bollywood big-budget action film “Ra.One”, starring megastar Shahrukh Khan.

Akon, 36, and Filmfare winner Shahrukh reportedly recently met in Los Angeles (USA). Akon, besides one song, will reportedly also form part of the cast. Directed by Anubhav Sinha (Tum Bin), science-fiction superhero hi-tech film “Ra.One” is written by David Benullo (Shadow Man), cinematography by Ueli Steiger (The Maiden Heist), and music by Vishal-Shekhar.
