It was of the children, by the children, but not for the children. We are talking about Shahrukh Khan’s Red Chilles first television venture and awards function – the Little Star Awards.
The awards function, held on Friday (October 31) in Mumbai was the first of its kind in India, where children from the B-town donned the role of judges and formed the jury, guided by experienced actor Nitu Singh.
“I think this is an amazing concept done internationally…I am here to support the cause like this,” said Shahrukh Khan, who is again entering the television market with Red Chillies producing a new serial for an entertainment channel.
With SRK kicking off such an event, it was a complete family event, with his best buddies Farah Khan, Arjun Rampal, Sajid Khan, Preity Zinta, Ranbir Kapoot, Urmila Matondkar and little star kids in attendance.
“I think it is wonderful to have children, because children are the most honest,” Arjun Rampal said.
While Farah Khan found the categories interesting. “The categories are very different and not so serious so it is quite fun,” said Farah Khan, who won the award for the ‘best dance move’ category.
With an interesting list of categories, was another interesting surprise on the show when cricketer Yuvraj Singh performed for the audience.
“It was wonderful to perform, it was my first time on stage, I enjoyed,” the flamboyant cricketer said.

Queen Bebo picks King Khan
Last night Kareena Kapoor opted to dance with Shah Rukh Khan rather than attend boyfriend Saif Ali Khan’s Rock On!! for Humanity concert (raising funds for flood-affected Bihar) at the MMRDA grounds, Bandra. Bebo performed with SRK for a Children’s Day TV show for Star Plus produced by Shah Rukh’s Red Chillies.
Though Kareena’s TV show date clashed with Saif Ali Khan’s rock concert (with Parikrama for charity), she opted for Shah Rukh’s show. Says the actress, defensively, “I had no choice. Shah Rukh’s show was a commitment I had made much earlier. Also I will be getting an award for my popularity with children. It’s sad but I’ll have to skip Saif’s concert. I am sure he’ll understand.”
This, despite the fact that Saif has always liked Bebo at his concerts, as he regards her as his inspiration. Says Kareena, “I know he said that. But what can I do? One has to be professional. I can’t let the heart rule the head all the time. I’ll make it up to him.”
Saif’s sister Soha and Kareena have become really close friends and discuss everything on cinema - from films to filmmakers - everything except Saif. “I find Soha very cool and classy and get along very well with her,” says the actress.
Also, Bebo appears gratified by the good opening of Golmaal Returns. “They used me as a USP and it seems to have worked,” Kareena smiles.
